Our designs, which are woven on a hand loom in our studio, are inspired by the Sussex countryside, gardens and the quirkiness of our home town, Brighton. All our natural wool fabrics are woven at a traditional mill in Wales. We make sumptuous throws, cushions, lampshades, curtains, hot water bottle covers, and, more recently, we have ventured into using Shetland wool for upholstery. Chalk is recognised by its contemporary fresh style which is both subtle and bold at the same time!

Kerry is the woven textiles designer at Chalk. She has had a long and interesting career working for companies from Japan to New York to Europe, designing men’s shirtings, airline fabrics, wall coverings, upholstery fabrics and towels, to name but a few. She has been a visiting tutor at Central St. Martin’s and Brighton University for many years.
The designs are woven in our Brighton studio by hand before production. Here Kerry can try out different ideas, constructions and colourways before sending the patterns to the mill in Wales. She liaises with the mill where the designs are skilfully woven by craftspeople in wide widths, adhering to technical instructions. After weaving and finishing, the throws are blanket-stitched at the mill and the remaining fabric is sent to Brighton to be made up into cushions and accessories.
All our products are manufactured in the UK and we have full product traceability. We run our business on 100% renewable energy and use 100% recycled packaging with the minimum of waste. We use energy saving procedures, LED lights and have a well insulated workshop.
We plan to create new designs and expand our range.
