Painter and lecturer Oliver Gosling explores landscapes of the imagination. Using a rich set of motifs developed over 40 years of practice, Gosling's work occupies a poetic space that is richly coloured, dream-like and prescient. Oliver Gosling holds a teaching post in fine art in Brighton University and lectures on a range of subjects from Chinese painting to contemporary techniques and composition.

Oliver Gosling trained at the Royal College of Art, London. He lived and exhibited in Japan for two years and in China for seven and a half years, where he held several exhibitions, each one an occasion to open up dialogues through talks and workshops, demonstrating that deeply held perceptions and sensibilities originating in very different cultures have the capacity to address our common humanity across time and space and, in terms of Chinese and Japanese concepts of space, have particular resonance today. Oliver now lives in the UK. His teaching posts include the University of Brighton where he lectures to BA and MA Fine Art students, Oxford University Department of Continuing Education: Certificate in the History of Art. Gosling is an Accredited Lecturer for the Arts Society, UK. Oliver also offers tuition for small groups and individuals, either on line or studio-based. Studio visits by appointment.
As a member of Blue Patch Oliver is taking part in the learning programme and aims to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of his art practice and address its wider environmental impact. He has successfully completed the Carbon Reduction course. Oliver will be researching the provenance of the materials he uses, as well as exploring ways to reduce any waste generated, such as that produced after washing brushes or palette cleaning.
Oliver has been producing beautiful paintings for a long time and the depth of experience and connection with his practice is profound. Look out for his next exhibition, don’t miss the chance to see the real thing!
